GU GRX Replacement Windscreen

Post by Clem »

Hi guys, got a rock against the windscreen yesterday. Spectacular side plate sized circular crack just above my line of sight. Was like a gunshot going off. What options are there for replacement glass?

Last time I checked, a windscreen was around R1000 at glassfit.

I had a similar rock incident & it was cheaper to just replace it out of my own pocket than to claim on insurance...

Be sure to check the fitment of the screen surround as it can be damaged or refitted incorrectly causing gaps or a wavey profile that will let water sit.

If damaged its agents only!

The beading around the window and "Agents only is why I always use the isurance

The beading can also only be re-used once or twice.

Last time I had a windscreen replaced, I was asked by the suppliers if it was an insurance job.

"Yes" I said. The quote was R7500. My excess was R2500. This happened with 3 places I phoned. For the 4th place I said "No, I am paying cash." That will be R1000 the lady said.

I was there in a flash, just in case they changed their minds. It was from Commercial Auto Glass in Selby. That was about 6 years ago with the Terrano.

Last year, when I bought the Y61 Patrol, the windscreen was cracked. The garage owner could only get it in at PG Glass in 3 days time, through his insurance claim procedure. I told him to give me R1000 off and I went back to Commercial (I enquired by phone first!!) and had the windscreen on the Patrol replaced for R1000 as well.

Not bad, the same price six years later....

7.5 k what a rip off.

Its good to know they are so cheap COD.

I never pay in on my windscreen claims. Hence I never bothered to check.

Josh,

My excess was basically the portion of the cost over my R5000 windscreen replacement cost limit......
