Key in ignition chime

I think it has been discussed before, but I am unable to find it. How does one stop the irritating chime when you open the driver's door with the key in the ignition?

Are you sure, I do not want to 'unplug' the whole car, I do not trust all the electronics on the newer cars. I once towed a small trailer and when I switched on the headlights, the car went into limp mode. I was considering to just undo the switch in the door frame that activates when you open the door .. the roof light I can mos switch on and off myself .. BUT then the alarm is also de activated ..
THANX for the advice of teh switch in the steering colomn .. hope the Zook has the same
