Windscreen prices

Post by DH70 »

Got various quotes for a new windscreen and moulding and they vary from R1400 to R7500. PG glass and a few other bigger names are most expensive, but claim they use proper Shatterprufe, however I read there's not a big difference between the latter and the cheaper options.

I found Commercial Auto glass (R1500) and BSG (R1400) the cheapest and was hoping someone has experience with these cheaper options.

What is a "safari" windscreen – as opposed to any other?

Incidentally, I have discovered that on an imported car of mine, the original German windscreen is a better quality than the South African made one. Visually, the fit and finish is the same but the South African one gets "sandblasted" far more easily than the German one. Which will also probably account for part of the difference in price.
