Second hand TB45 cost?
Just wondering....if I had to experiment with a turbo on my TB45 and I end putting a conrod through the block, what does a second hand TB45 go for and where would I find one?

Re: Second hand TB45 cost?
I found one last year for R12k.
But maybe I was just lucky?

Re: Second hand TB45 cost?
Zantus,
I paid R25k for a TB45E at Engine Den in Pretoria. That engine was close to brand new. It is running well in that red GQ.
Some advice on changing a N/A engine to turbo : DONT DO IT! Just my opinion.

Re: Second hand TB45 cost?
How difficult to upgrade it to a 4.8 then? Getting the power without the Turbo?

Re: Second hand TB45 cost?
Roland,
I changed a 4.2 to a 4.5 without any major changes. Bell housing and mountings were the same. Small pipe and wiring changes.
There is a chance that the same will apply to the 4.8. The head on the 4.8 is twin cam but I think the block could be similar.
The problem will be engine management , cooling and exhaust mods. There are endless sensors in the wiring loom that form part of the anti theft system.
You would have to use aftermarket management or be very clever with electronics. The engine gearbox combination is also controlled by this system and the standard 4.8 has been fine tuned by Nissan to be close to perfect. If you start changing things , expect problems.

Re: Second hand TB45 cost?
For the price you can buy 4,8's these days, probably a better and safer bet to just sell the 4,5 and and buy a 4,8, =imho
by the time you get an engine, do the mods on the old vehicle with all the stress and hassles that go with it, its probably going to be cheaper option to replace the vehicle anyway!

Re: Second hand TB45 cost?
4.8 is still not enough power....yeah....yeah....I know what you're thinking....remember, different strokes for different folks
The choice is not between 4.5 & 4.8, but between 4.5 turbo and NA V8....the aim is 300kW plus eventually.
So far I'm not too keen on a full V8 conversion, because it cannot be a puny little Lexus V8, it will have to be something big and American. I did the Lexus conversion thing before and it was a real pain to get it the way I wanted....and it never was.
I have however since my post last night realised, and decided, that if I want serious power, stock internals won't cut it, so at the moment I'm looking at suppliers of stronger internals and finding out what the limits of the block and mains will be....lots of research to be done
