Re: Unbelievable fuel consumption
Are you running high octane at the coast? If not, you should be.

Jorrie - No I'm not running "High Octane" at the coast - I'm running the Two Oceans
On a serious note - must say I'm not consistent in running high Octane down here - will be more aware when filling up from now on

Re: Unbelievable fuel consumption
I think I figured out this weekend how to get the 4.8 GRX fuel consumption down to a high 11's/low 12's per 100km while running a steady 120 to 130km/h. Seems unbelievable. Let me verify over the next six months or so and I'll let you know if I'm correct. Undoubtedly though part of it is the HT tyres - I think I'm going to have a spare set of rims and tyres for "serious work" (all terrains probably) while keeping the HTs for most weekend trips, camping and so forth. Watch this space (patiently).

Re: Unbelievable fuel consumption
I had an '08 Patrol 4.8 GRX and my fuel consumption going down from JHB to Durban came in at 13.5/100 and on the way back up to JHB came in at 14.5. So a 2 way average of 14 to me is pretty good going for a vehicle like this. Oh yes, was running HT's.
I subsequently sold the '08 when moving to Nigeria 4 years back, but I am in the process of moving back to SA and have just bought a '13 4.8 GRX. So I hope that these new modifications done by Nissan to the engine lead to further improvement in fuel economy. Does anyone have any more info on when these changes were made by Nissan?
I wonder if these tweaks can be done to older models?

Re: Unbelievable fuel consumption
Hi All
I have a 2012 4.8 GRX and recently got 14.8 and 15.2 l/100 over 2 full tanks on a whole bunch of trips between Jo'Burg and Pilanesberg. That's not as good as the best figures quoted here but it's pretty impressive for a vehicle this size. BTW, my Patrol is completely standard
This is my 2nd (petrol) Patrol. The first one was a '99 4.5 GRX Manual and that also got good fuel consumption.
Regards
David

Re: Unbelievable fuel consumption
For what it's worth I find the sweet spot to be at 110km/h with CC - caravan, trailer or empty. Driving slower didn't give me much (1-2% @ 90km/h) better fuel consumption, 120km/h was 8% higher. Mine has a 50-70mm raise and muds with metal bars back and front + snorkel coming end of this week. I get to my destination way faster with CC. 265/70/17 Muds
17 (5.9) with trailer - conq comfort
19 (5.2) with jurgens classiq
15.5 (6.5) loaded but no tow.
