Russ, I suppose one possibility is that the one in the ad might be a one-off brought in by Nissan SA for homologation purposes (ahead of the actual launch of the model in SA), which is now being sold second hand through a Nissan dealer. Perhaps there will be a proper product launch before actual new sales start?

The empty block I couldn't pick up on my own. I could just about lift one side to put a block of wood underneath, and do the same for the other side. it's a BIG motor too.... weight saving was not a key issue when designed. :surprised: :surprised:

Take the motor out of a 4.2 diesel and the patrol does a stationary wheelie.... :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:
In general these diesel motors seem to heavy. My old 2.7, that had a lot of stuff already stripped off, was heavy enough to keep three guys that were wanting to get there hands on the scrap metal, busy seriously busy. They could not get it lifted onto the trailer and had to call a fourth guy in off the street to help them.

When I was looking at the replacement and insurance money to blow, I though I would get a gearbox at the same time. I was warned that a 1 ton bakkie would not be sufficient to fetch the combination engine and gearbox.

Oh yes, and then there is Reenen that did that SFA build with a Hardbody onto a SFA Hilux chassis. When he installed the 2.7 engine, the front end just about bottomed out onto the bump stops with the standard leaf springs. He had to add a set of coil overs to get the nose up.
