Hi guys, I have been scouring the internet for a long time in search of a Patrol scale model 1/18 or whatever. Nothing out there. The good news is I came across a friend of a friend who is a model maker. He is building a 1/18 scale model of Goldilocks, My '96 Patrol 4.2. If anyone is interested in or actually collects scale models, and you would like to own a Patrol scale model let me know. We did the preliminary photo's this morning, and over the next couple of weeks he will be doing the things model makers do. A dark art that.
Anyway. Long and short is that this will not be a toy. It is a scale model for display. The artist in question has done some amazing work which also includes some top secret military machines from the old days for Armscor. Costs etc I can't give you until I have received a cost for my own car, but I can guarantee it will be something we will be proud to have and afford. As far as the scale is concerned, I think he will be prepared to it in as large a scale as you would like, but that would obviously cost more, and you would need to work those costs yourself with the builder. As soon as I have my baby in miniature, I will post the images on the forum.
Regards

Re: Scale model Patrol
Hi Tour de Frans and Izak,
Yes, I have seen those models. They are tiny tho. 1/43 scale and lack a bit of detail.
See this link: http://www.exoto.com/s/1/
This is the cream of scale models and these are as high as R6000.00 each
http://www.autoartmodels.com/
These guys are good as well. Their models come in around R600.00 to R800.00. Unfortunately loads of Landrovers and X5's but no Patrols
Our vehicles are not available in 1/18 at all. In fact even Landcruiser's don't exist. There are a few 105 "Amazon's" but no 60/62/80 and 100 series in 1/18.
Tamiya produce a few R/C versions but these ARE toys and take a beating.
Mark, the model maker came back to me yesterday. There are 48 parts in total.Wheels and tyres are I think 6 parts alone. Moving parts are not a problem at all, as he has had to do scale workings on things like helicopters and army tanks etc. I think it would mean reworking the molds to accommodate hinges and so forth as well as then doing interiors. The main form is hand carved to scale, and takes a lot of man hours. All models are cast in high grade resin and finished in choice of color. I am getting a final costing from him later. I will copy and post his quotation.
Unfortunately it's not going to be cheap.
I have paid around R3000.00 in the past for models and those are mass produced!
What we are trying to do is get the numbers of buyers up. That way the cost per person per model will come down. A mold is good for approximately 20 models. After that the finish becomes tatty as the mold deteriorates. A new mold won't be as expensive as the original prototype. for the next batch of buyers.
Hope that helps.
Regards

Re: Scale model Patrol
I wish someone would produce a scale model kit of the GQ/Y60 or MK/MQ Patrol.
