Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Does anybody have any experjence or opinion on the current Dunlop MT?

SJC can comment as he has them but his last report was low load rating and wearing quickly.

Het so 20k km op my stel Dunlop MT2's gedoen(255/85r16), hulle gaan nie 30k sien nie, miskien nie eers 25k nie... Hulle het wel redelik baie swaar vragte aan gery en het baie meer teer as grond gesien.
Kan nie kla oor hulle "performance" nie, bied goeie traksie, uitstekend in modder. Het nog net een gaatjie gekry agv van n stuk draad.
(sal later paar fotos plaas van hulle kondisie na 20k km...)

I have a lot of respect for the KL71's, but my budget doesn't care. Also, they are not available in the size I want to try (255/85R16).

Within the known brands, the Dunlop appears to be by far the cheapest.

Some background:
Despite the fact that my Patrol is my only car and daly driver, I still only do around 15-20k km per year. I Average 17.8k km/year (160k km over 9 years of ownership). Secondly, each time I have bought tires, they have been more than a year old. Probably more than two years old on average.

Therefore, I am working on the assumption that I will not be able to use a set of tires for more than 5 years, and in that time I am likely to do less than 90k km.

Therefore, buying BF's or Coopers is probably a waste of money. In fact, even my recently-discarded set of Bridgestones have more than 5mm tread depth left, but they are completely buggered, mostly due to age. Two of the five are now irreperable and at least one more is close.

Currently I can get Dunlop for just less than R12k for a set of five. The next cheapest tire is around R18k for a set. R18k/90k km= R0.2/km.
Thus, if the Dunlops can give me R60k km, they match that in r/km. Any more and I start scoring...

Decisions decisions.

KL71's were the best budget tyre for years, then as soon as they became popular... BANG! The price went up in spades!!

I am also using my Patrol as a daily drive with similar annual km.

I know Mt's look very cool and with you driving skills you would most likely also use their added capability once in a while when going off-road.

The question is... (considering your circumstances / driving patterns) ..... would not the best MT be an AT ??considering that an AT should be significantly cheaper in every aspect + should give you more mileage.

What is this all terrain tires you are speaking of.....
