Tyres too big?

Post by biggles »

Will 305 70 r 16 be too big for 4800 GUII with 2 inch lift?

I have Cooper SST that are left over from the old patrol. I have a set of steel 16s that I have been planning to mount them too since the dark ages. The steelies are Russ's old ones so came of a pick-up.

Will they fit without a body lift?

Dont know what the offset is but those are actually just 33 so no problem even with no lift :salute:

if it is patrol pickup oem steelies, then they might be slightly narrow for 305's.
Patrol pickup steelies are 6.5jj with a very "close to body of car" offset... I got a set on my 4.5 with 255/85r16 tyres (also 33" but narrower). Had to fit 30mm spacers to prevent the wheels rubbing the inside of the wheel arches when flexing. My 4.5 got 3" lift (afaik)...

But if it is aftermarket steelies such as a-line etc. then it might be 7.5 or 8j with 00 offset. Which will prevent the rubbing.

Went through my comms with Russ when I bought them. They are "Trailduster" / " Pro- White" 7j with unknown but suspect 0 offset.

I guess I will just fit one and compare to the current rims!! I have 6mm spacers.

Will the "fat" profile fit in? It is a a 33inch x 12 inch profile that is wider than the 'recommended" I can find on this site at least. And the uncertainty is due to them coming off a body lifted patrol.

Michael had 305 70 16 on his 4.2 Ian's dad has them now on standard patrol steelies ...you have the tires and the rims fit them and let us know...just check the center holes on the rims if you remove the spacers but you know that story by now :salute:

Steven, yes I had 305/70/16 BF Muds and had no problem whatsoever with them. I had a slight rub under flex on the inside of the body, but never heard it or felt it and this also happens with the 285/75/16 tyres so no drama
