General Grabber M/T
Gents
Ok so I recently bought new tyres for my Patrol and settled for the General Grabber MT as they were very cheap and sports some nice features like a 3 ply sidewall and 16mm tread like the other muds on the market.
So I decided I will start a thread on the tyres and measure the tread on the wheels every 7,500km or 10,000km on rotating them to see how they wear.
I will also report on how I find the performance for others that might be interested.
For the record, I did pay R12,400 for 5 tyres and this was why I went to 15" and I fitted 33x12.5x15
I have attached an article in the latest Leasure Wheels where they did a review on the General Grabber GT, AT and MT

Re: General Grabber M/T
Look great Michael
A friend of mine has had them for quite some time with no problems at all.
The only advise he gives is you must keep an eye on the pressures. They wear extremely quickly if you run low pressures on tar.
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Re: General Grabber M/T
Cedric, if you can, hang in there a bit longer.
General has launched the Grabber X3 globally a few weeks ago.
My contacts at General Tire say that initially they will be importing selected sizes for SA, and they are currently tooling up for local production to start mid next year.
I planted the seed some time ago saying that there has been a lot of interest for a 16" Grabber X3 from the forum guys.
They hinted that they might offer them in 265/75R16 (31") and 285/75R16" (33") from the start.
Once local production starts, the full size range will be available.
The imported tires will have RED writing and the locally produced will have WHITE writing.
The price will be so low, they will wipe the market up Good bye BFG, Cooper, Mickey Thompson, and, and, and...

Re: General Grabber M/T
I'm hooked and I'm hanging in there bud !!!... I will have to just be careful at the moment cause my one tyre developed a delamination and has been swapped now onto the rear door as a spare, but that's just for show cause it don't hold no more air.
Regards
Cedric

Re: General Grabber M/T
Dustin
When I did the Jamboree challenge in April this year the spokesperson for General Tyres was there and he then said that they are launching a new range of MT which I thought I have a set of on my Patrol. What makes the X3 different from what I have except for the red/white lettering and the slightly different sidewall pattern?

Re: General Grabber M/T
The Grabber MT was developed and launched to gauge the market before they went into more "beefy" tire construction.
The Grabber X3 is the successor to the MT if you like.
There are some small changes to the tread pattern with regards to scalloped & angled block faces, ejector bars, sipping, etc. which unless you're really looking for it, you probably won't notice it.
The big difference is in the compound and sidewall.
The compound is slightly harder, much like your BFG's for longer tread life, but yet 'sticky' enough for competition spec.
The sidewall reinforcing and side biters are the most prominent addition.
I don't want to start a frenzy with speculation, but I heard the estimated price on 285/75R16 (33") was going to be in the region of R2600 each, which will destroy the competition.
I'll hang in until my Maxxis Bighorns are ka-putt and I'll go over to the X3's
General also has a tire called a Grabber.
It may not look like much but it is an awesome tire !
They were originally designed and manufactured for the Baja Trophy Truck racing and desert racing.
General Tire SA is desperately trying to bring them in, but GT USA can't even keep up with their local demand, so for now we won't be seeing these here.

Re: General Grabber M/T
Oh, and FYI, the Grabber AT has also been replaced by the newly launched Grabber AT2.
It looks something like the old BFG KO's.
Not sure how long the current Grabber AT's will be kept in SA before being replaced by the AT2's. Haven't spoken to my contact on the inside yet.
Jeeeez.... you'd swear I was getting paid by General Tire for all of my PR work
I wish
