Re: Pirelli vs Nankang
Dustin... looks like you got Iron Maidens brother/sister.....
Well done brother !!!
Just be aware though.... without a turbo, and fitting 33"'s and having them as muddies is going to suck away even more power. Maybe a decent A/T would work better. I know the Coopers make a good looking A/T, but they are pricey if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Pirelli vs Nankang
Ian, my diesel has more than enough vooma to get me where I need to go.... I don't need to do more than 130 - 140..... and I don't need to stop at every fuel station.....

Re: Pirelli vs Nankang
Congrats Dustin
I also see you mention in another post as to how good the KL's were on a wet road. Can only agree with you on that one. Those Muds gave me better handling on wet tar than any other AT, and even HT tyre has ever given me. And people said I was imagining things.
Cedric, whats the Maiden weigh? I am struggling with the Sani on 33's with the 2.7TD. To keep it at 120 is a mission. I may as well be paying the juice for a 4,2TD. Sani weighed in at 2100kg before the Patrol diffs, whats a Patrol at?ricster wrote:Just be aware though.... without a turbo, and fitting 33"'s and having them as muddies is going to suck away even more power.

David
My Patrol weighs 2,700kg the last time I had it on a scale, power is more than enough with my 33" tyres and I can maintain 140km/h on hills no prob.

Re: Pirelli vs Nankang
David, on the licence disk it says something along the lines of +/- 2450 Kg, but with the bigger tyres, turbo, radiator, drawer system 60L water tank, bullbar ( ok its a TJM Aluminium bull bar and I can pick it up with one hand ), fridge and a set of snow chains under the back seat, and all the other recovery stuff and compressor and extra battery and roof rack, I must get very close to or, just over the 3ton mark when loaded for holiday. I can sit very comfortably at 120 - 130 on the highway, even on up hills. The boost climbs up to 0.8 bar when I put foot. When I cruise at 120 - 130, the boost is at about 0.3 - 0.4 bar.
Did a trip to Zabula Game lodge a few weeks back with 4 adults in the Patrol, loaded with food, fridge and loads of liquid refreshments, and relax cruise at 120, without the roof rack got me 12L/100km.
Big tyres suck power and fuel.... the more you can get the motor not to labor the better.
And yes... those KL71 Kumho's are the BEST off road tyre around for handling. Noisy as hell, but a very strong robust beast. but again this aggressive tread used to suck power, so it was a compromise

Re: Pirelli vs Nankang
My I have now clocked up about 3000km with my new grabbers on my disco 4 fuel consumption has gone up by about 200ml to 300ml per 10km!, so about 2 to 3 litres per 100km over the HT's I had on before.

Ian, thats quite a big increase in fuel consumption!IanT wrote:My I have now clocked up about 3000km with my new grabbers on my disco 4 fuel consumption has gone up by about 200ml to 300ml per 10km!, so about 2 to 3 litres per 100km over the HT's I had on before.
Did you change to a bigger size as well or just from HT's to MT's?
