Lockable spare wheel nuts

Post by gobi »

I took the plunge and bought the Patrol a full set of new tyres last week. All of a sudden my spare wheel with its brand new tyre looks very vulnerable without a secure locking mechanism as those 3 long shaft nuts on the spare can be removed very easily. I tried Nissan but they seem to be clueless. Anyone knows where I can get lockable nuts or maybe just a different nut that takes a special tool to remove?

I also need a lockable nut for the spare wheel. Midas do sell some, but I have not confirmed if they do have some that would fit a patrol...

Any tire dealer should at least be able to supply a set of those nuts that need a special socket...

Fanus - The challenge is that your spare wheel is held on by long bolts and not nuts. I could not find at Midas, TW&T etc so made up a cable that is crimped into a eye that fits under the nut holding the spare wheel carrier and then just use a normal padlock. Mine will no longer be in use from next week so if you want it I can bring it on the river trip.

Or buy a long bolt and nut, and screw in place from the back of the wheel bracket , use the extra nut to lock the bolt against the bracket and then buy a set of locknuts.

What my wheel looks like. it appears to have some sort of locking nut without the locking mechanism.

Midas got this, but I think it might be shorter than the nissan nuts/bolts.

Fanus myne lyk( amper) so maar myne werk nog met die kar sleutel daar waar joune oop is..joune se barrel is weg...
ek dink die vorige eienaar van my Patrol was baie heilig oor die kar gewees en was net deur die agente gediens gewees

I tried those exact Midas one's at the shop but they are short and although the thread did screw in it was not much and was not happy with the strength. Taking my system off on Monday and will give to you on river trip or post before.
