BFG KO2
Good morning!
I thought about new tyres for about a year now as the old ones had already about 8 years on and I didn't want to risk a puncture due to and old tyre despite still enough tread left.
As everybody here I read in the internet about which tyre might be best (my possible types were BFG KO2, Cooper ST MAXX, or the Bridgestone Dueler 697 (I had the 694 on before).
In the end I learned, that you just have to read long enough to have somebody telling tyre X is the best he ever had, with incredibly mileage, durability and versatility and you will have somebody who will say the exact opposite: flats, wear, punctures, noise, and so on.
So there I was at the local dealer examining his options he had in stock. It turned out the KO2 and the ST MAXX were available. As the price difference wasn't great (less than 1000ZAR for five tyres) it was rather a matter of taste and I decided for the KO2s.
Now it is a bit unfair as I never drove the duelers when they were new, but the changes are impressive: basically nearly no noise from the tyres anymore, neither on sand nor on tar. No humming at all.
The grip is much better, even while breaking softly on tar you feel a difference - but that is something I experienced a few other times when I exchanged old tyres against new ones.
Also on well-maintained dust road the car feel much more precise and direct. So far I am quite happy with my choice.
I will follow up when I made a few Ks but that will take some time.

Hi Florian
Congratulation to your new set of BFG.
I don't want to high-check your post but can I ask you 4 questions please. ?
What is the Tyre size (looks like 265/75/16) ?
Is this an LT Tyre (light truck Tyre)
and what kind of pressure are you running on that Tyre
what kind of Tyre pressure did the dealer recommend ?

Re: BFG KO2
Morning All
I bit the bullet a month and a half ago and put a full set of 285/65/16 KO2's on my lorry.
Done 5 thousand kms so far... basically broken down into one trip to the Berg of 1500km's, one trip to Dullstroom of 600km's and the rest has been my daily commute between Kensington (temp accoms while renovating our home) and Alberton North (work)...
In short without getting all technical:
THE BEST MONEY I HAVE SPENT....
What a pleasure on the open road, really quiet, no shaking, amazing grip on and off road up mountain sand roads with steep gradients etc...
Havn't had them on any serious 4x4 tracks but I am super confident in them performing without any issues.
I run my tar pressure at 3 bar and the sand road stuff at 2 bar. Will drop to 1.5 for the offroad tracks, once the rain arrives
Havent looked back!
Talk to Barend at TyreMart in Centurion as they have the best prices and ultra friendly service.

Sorry guys, I totally forgot this thread and the notification was either forgotten by me or it didn't work. So here is a quick update:Picasso wrote:Hi Florian

What is the Tyre size (looks like 265/75/16) ?
Is this an LT Tyre (light truck Tyre)
and what kind of pressure are you running on that Tyre
what kind of Tyre pressure did the dealer recommend ?
I just did about 20000Ks with the tires now. They became a bit louder, but they are not annoying me. A silent humming on tar is present.
The size is like you said: 265/75R16.
I cannot really say if it is a LT-tire, should that be stated on the flank?
I am running it either with 2.3 front and 2.6 in the back or 2.5 all around which is the recommendation of the dealer.
I rotated the tires after 11000km and measured the tread depth: original it was 11.7mm and now it was between 9.3 and 9.8mm. That is with driving on sand dust road about 40%, mostly not using high revs or max thrust.
