Wheel Alignment - GRX 4.8

Post by John Mac »

Replaced the original tyres on my 2013 Patrol GRX 4.8 at 53000km's with BFG AT's a month ago. Unfortunately the guys who did the fitting [Autowiel Centurion] fooled around with the Wheel Alignment and screwed it up. The Patrol pulls left quite seriously and the steering is misaligned.

Took it back to them, only to be told they cannot set it. Weird, considering they were able to screw it up in the first place.

Any suggestions on the best place to take the Patrol to get it sorted?

Thanks
John

If mods need to be made on the suspension or something needs to be bent you can try TyreMart in Centurion, they have all the equipment needed to get it straight if Barend cant sort it.

Thanks guys but strangely enough it is the TyreMart/Autowiel branch in Centurion just past the Toyota Franchise that says they can't do it. I have been dealing with them for the past 14 years and never had an issue, now they profess not to be able to fix it.

I will go back this week and ask for Barend, thanks a mill for the advice.

Well there isn't much that can be set on a patrol regarding alignment. I use to have the same problem with bf tyres, you probably would need to swop one tyre on the rim. That's what was done on my vehicle when I had bf's on long ago and it was sorted

The only thing on the patrol that can be adjusted is the toe, and this shouldn't cause the issues you describe.

Rotate the tires around to see if that makes a difference?

Peter, I can't remember exactly how the Patrol radius arms are installed but do they not have a large nut behind the chassis outrigger (like a Land Rover)? If so, one wonders whether they might not have fiddled with that, upsetting the angle of the axle to the chassis. Anyway, the best thing is to simply keep people away from fiddling with the wheel alignment on a Patrol. They rarely need anything.
