15 inch rims

Post by toyford »

I see my patrols rims will need attention soon.it seems a lot of guys are going to 15 inch rims.what type of Tyres are you guys using for your 15 inch rims? Does bf make 15 inch Tyres? I am trying to figure out whether to by 16 inch mags or refurbish my rims because I got two brand new bf Tyres with my patrol that are 16 inch which means when my current Tyres need replacing I will only need to get two, thank goodness

Ok I know christo slang is running 15 inch wheels on chuck and a lot of GQ manne also drives on 15 inch wheels
Not any mags fit the patrol be carefull you have to cut a resess in to fit over the hub so look nicely
your tires has a life of +- 5 years then after they become high risk when u deflate them ect 33 12.5 are a lekke size for your gu or 32 11.5 in 15inch . I think the same size in 16 inch is 285 75 16 and 265 70 16 just check with tire people or pm me if you need help

15" will fit on your car.
BF makes 15" tires. But you might need to go fairly wide to maintain your current diameter, depending on the size of tires you currently have.

For example, if you currently have 285/75R16, then they are effectively 33" in diameter. The only 15" tire available locally with that diameter, is the 33" x 12.5" x 15", which is 12,5" wide (315mm in metric sizes), and that might cause you a bit more grief at the pumps. But then again, maybe not, nobody is quite sure.

If you currently have 265/75 R216's, you could go for 32" x 11.5" x 15" for similar diameter.

Tks Tinus and Peter, just one more question with regards to the 33" being heavier on fuel,is it the weightier tyre or diameter that makes it heavier on fuel?

As pieter expained the 12.5 inch 15 are about 315mm wide and has a 33 inch diameter the 16 are also 33 inch diameter but is only 285mm wide more rubber on the road means more friction but that is only my opinion

Basically, I agree with Tinus, with one proviso:

The diameter changes gear ratios, and you need to take that into account while driving (IE change down sooner). If you do, I doubt it has much influence on fuel consumption. The extra width is a drag, but some guys who have changed have retained the same fuel consumption.

Just check for clearance issues on the front wheels. I am sure that the 15" rims foul on the brake caliper

Only on the 4.8 AFAIK

I know the GQ's came standard with 15's and that Christo Slang has 15's on his GU

I presume the GU 4.2 Diesel and the GU 4.5 Petrol use identical calipers???
