My Lorrie is up for a new battery which one is the best to get and how big and what type??? :think:

AJ, I assume you talk about the primary battery.

I have always had excellent service from Willard 674.
It is a big heavy battery rated at 102 amp hours and cost in the region of a R1000 rand. Very robust and can take a lot of abuse. Generally used on tractors and trucks.

Kobus, ek het toe 'n nuwe battery vir Lasarus in gesit. Ek het bietjie navorsing gedoen en dis toe nie so eenvoudig as wat ek gedink het nie. Nou praat ek spesifiek 4.8:

1. Die "crank amps" van die battery is belangrik. Sodra die voertuig se sleutel aangeskakel word maar die enjin word nog nie gedraai nie, skakel al die "electronics" aan. Dit sluit die rekenaars (ecu en ratkas) in wat deur al hul toetse hardloop asook die petrol pompie wat in die tenk sit.

2. Sodra die enjin dan gedraai word is dit belangrik dat die stroom na die rekenaars nie verminder terwyl die enjin op dieselfde moment baie stroom trek nie. Indien die rekenaars te min stroom kry kan dit die rekenaars beskadig. Ek het altyd gedink 'n diesel het standaard 'n kragtiger battery as 'n petrol nodig. Die "electronics" teorie op die moderne petrol enjins verander die prentjie tog ietwat.

3. In geval van 'n battery wat besig is om in te gee, beinvloed dit ook die ecu se besluite. Die ecu sal al die "non-essential" funksies begin afskakel ten einde genoeg stroom by die belangrike funksies te kry. Dit mag vir jou as bestuurder laat voel of jy in 'n sirkus sit.

4. Ek het my oe toegemaak en 'n Deltec SMF NX-120-7 in gesit. Sy specs is: 90Ah, cold crank 730amp en crank 860amp. Dis 'n duur battery, maar nie 'n fraksie van 'n ecu se koste nie.
