Consult OBD for '99 GRX 4500I

Post by Florian320 »

I tried to find something but wasn't really successful, so I am asking you guys:
as I just had an issue where it was literally impossible for the dealer to get the diagnosis tool to reset my airbag lamp I would like to get a diagnosis plug like the VCDS you use for VW/Audi.

I got the TB45E in a '99 4500GRX, injection engine. It has the rectangle plug for OBD, not the 'curved' one.

Now the simple question is: where can I find a diagnosis tool, which either stand alone or via pc / iOS-phone allows me to read out the error Messages and maybe sort them out?

Thanks for your Input!

Ok, if anybody has a similar question: I just bought the ECUtalk-cable from ecutalk.com.au .

After installing the proper recommended software I could read out quite some data live and could see (and theoretically -there were None- reset) error codes.

That adapter really is a neat thing!

Best regards,

Resurrecting an old post.

How are you experiencing the ecutalk OBD reader having it for a year now?
Another related question, do you find it monitors/ displays all the info you regard as imported to keep the TB45E going optimally?

Hi Nopressure,

I am not only using the OBD cable but also the permanently installed ECUtalk box.
To me it delivers more than enough data. Especially the coolant temperature, MAF und consumption are interesting.
I still didn't have any errors to cancel, so I can not complain or report about that.

In sum to me it was worth buying these items.

Great to hear thanks.
Did the supplier organise the shipment, or did you use a third party?

Do you have the specific product codes, as I do not want to go through everything and end up with the wrong product.

The shipment was organized by the supplier.
The item is not in reach right now, so I can‘t have a look.
But maybe just to be sure take a picture of your obd-port which is more or less under your steering column to the right and check with the examples on the website or even send it to the supplier to really make sure.

I do not want to high jack your thread, but I need some advice as I am very new to Patrols.

I read a lot about the Madman unit on this forum, why did you rather choose the ecutalk unit? Is it specifically more beneficial for the TB motors? Or did you want something that indicated fault codes?

Kindly educate this layman

Hi Nopressure,

as I don't have the diesel, I didn't really see the need for a Madman.
The 3.0 TDI would have been equipped with a Madman the second I got one.
But the 4.5 petrol is much simpler technology and the bad issues with the older 3.0 diesel (high temp due to wrong MAF-values, turbo overpowering aso) are not applicable.
As I mostly wanted to see my actual fuel consumption while driving and in the end wanted to have something with which I can reset possible errors in the OD system the ECUtalk was the item to get.
Actually due to the fact that I can see my current consumption now I got the car down from 18.7 l/100km to about 17 l/100km now - just by understanding how the engine reacts.
