Starter Stuff... Ceck this Price discrepenacy

Post by iandvl »

Some are probably aware that we cut our Bots trip short due to very strange electrical issues. Got back to ZA yesterday evening.

I will post a (non)-trip report at some point explaining stuff. Suffice to say, I have managed to isolate the starter as being the main cause. Also, many thanks to Tinus and Graham for the assistance and advice on the way. I should mention that a tribute to the quality of the vehicle in that it brough us back 600km despite being more-or-less non-functional from an electric point of view.

My rant now ? I have been trying to source a new starter. Thanks Anton and Tinus for a ton of advice again.

However, Nissan SA is on some serious drugs. To highlight:

Mitsubishi branded Hitachi S114-780 starter, delivered to Brits on Tuesday or Wednesday: R1070.40

Nissan branded Hitachi S114-780 starter, delivered to Brits on unknown date weeks in future as there is no stock: R9344.10

I cannot believe it. Seriously.

Hi Ian.....

I am feeling the pain as well..............

Aircon compressor (for another Nissan Vehicle) 18.000 R !!
center cap 1000 R !!
and so on ... and so on

We are passionate about the brand Nissan but there is not much passion (price-fairness) coming from Nissan SA

Have you called various dealers? I have been given different prices on various items on two dealers who are literally 10km from each other. However I have wondered if they are both quoting the same items..

Worth a try?

Thanks Peter,

But these things happen. So to say an "occupational injury"...

On a side note: after working out what was wrong, I can almost kick myself. Everything I required to get underway again (apart from my multi-meter, new brushes and the grease for the planetary gears) was in my car. So we learn. On the other hand, since we were travelling against a relatively tight schedule, I'm not sure we would have made it in terms of times, and it would have been pointless to drive all the way to Kasane without having the time to see anything.

Lessons learnt - it was a very "informative" couple of days for me. :rolling: :rolling:
