Barn door not opening on remote

This has been a recurring thing and really had me stumped (or should I say climbing into the back via the rear doors to get in and open from the inside).

With the remote you can hear all doors open with a click. The can open the small rear door but it doesn't come fully off the catch and will not open further. I found out by pressing open again on the key you get another lock opening sound and the door opens no problem. This is fine until you want to get into the back and don't have your keys on you.

Sometimes there is no issue.

Any ideas?

I have found with mine that if the big door isn't closed proprly, such that the top catch doesn't engage fully, and you drive for a while, this happens.

Silly question.. there is nothing leaning against the inner locking handle stopping it from unlocking...happened to me ..Twice..!!

Nothing leaning up against it. But I will check the top catch. I lubed everything up and the spare is off the door now.

I have noted that sometimes the door appears shut but the interior light doesn't go off. I then open and extra close it and the light goes off. I don't usually have the interior light on auto so I will check to see if there is a correlation with not closing properly and the lock.

It does seem better recently. Maybe a good stretch of corrugations loosed something up.

My father had a similar issue. Turned out his packing-method was pushing something up against the back door handle, so when you unlocked with the remote, the door could not unlock. I figured it out for him, and he's adjusted his packing methods accordingly... :rolling: :rolling:

Problem solved!!

This issue I had with the the rear door not opening properly reached a head while demonstrating how good my patrol was and Nissans are not as bad as everyone makes out... the rear door refused to unlock at all. Necessitating me to climb over the drawer system to open it from the inside. Very embarrassing

I stripped out the rear panel and tested the system for about an hour eventually stripping it and greasing up all the moving bits. But still only a slight improvement.

I eventually located the problem. The key lock was all dusted up and part of the lock turns freely when you use the remote was stiff. Anyway I cleaned and greased that all up and she is working very well.

Now the embarrassing part: Triumphant in solving an issue that had plagued me for a while I went to go tell the missus. She listened patiently, then asked why I did not use the key from the beginning instead of climbing over the drawer system and instead of playing with the remote pressing it 5 times before the door would open? I then also realised that using the key lock once in a while would have freed up the mechanism enough for the remote to work.

Glad you got it sorted!

By the way, where did you grease after stripping it, because I might have made a mistake? I stripped all the mechanisms recently as well, but decided to leave everything 'ungreased' when I put it together.

My thinking was that the grease ended up attracting dust and dirt and would again become a sticky paste which kept everything from operating smoothly. But I'm pretty dumb and I reckon that might not have been a great move.
