Nissan Keys, Keycoding and Parts

Post by iandvl »

I've posted in the Nissan Offroad Forum before as a result of the fact that I was offended when I was quoted about R4K by the dealers to cut and code a new key for my Hardbody. The original post is here.

I've also noticed similar questions crop up on the 4x4 Community Forum before. A quick search here does not indicate some collection of key-related resources, so I thought I would start one. Information I've got comes from myself personally, an answer to my above-mentioned post on the NORC forum by Kobus as well as Google (Jurie can perhaps see whether my Nelspruit contact actually does what they advertise).

Just thought I'd post it as it will probably help somebody one day...

I've had both my Patrol and my wife's X-Trail remotes replaced and reprogrammed by Dorian at Craighall Locksmiths at a fraction of the Dealer price. If anyone is interested, their No. is 011 787-2199. I'm sure that he will cut the keys as well.

Hi Guys,

I had my keys refurbished at Craighall locksmiths today.

The keys & transponders were fine, just the rubber remote buttons were toast.

They swapped out the old parts for new aftermarket bits - no more sticky broken buttons.

They were done in 5mins & cost R400 per key, this was a great deal after the Nissan dealer asked for R1600 per key.

Gents .. What I have experienced a number of times at the dealers --- that oke behind the counter "looking up the part numbers & prices" [want hy WEET nie] They just fish grab the firts thing they see and sell you the whole item .. instead of just the part you need
[Like the MAF sensor .. ask them for the MAF .. they sell you the entire system, pipes, holder, and the little sensor for like R9 000 ... BUIT, if you point out you only need that smalll part .. then they wak eup and the cost falls to R1800 ...
Same with the key .. the rubber replacement [WITHOUT transponder and key part] was R280 when I had Boezman ..

MAAR .. IAN .. BG thanx for this thread. I need a dupl for the Prado

Thanks for the info Ian. Yes I had a new rubber fitted to the key and the guy soldered 2 tiny new buttons inside the key.
I really looks the same as the original NATS key and @ R460.00 I am happy.
The new key normally opens the doors with the usual flashing lights but on trying to lock the doors the lights flashes but the doors stay unlocked.
The locksmith recons that if the lights flash the sending and receiving of the signal is electronically OK but that I am having a mechanical problem.
Any suggestions please.
