I would talk to the supplier and try swop the 60Amp with a higher rating alternator - he has supplied an inferior solution - 60Amp is way too low for a Patrol, especially where you may want to go off the beaten track!

Hmm, the ripple current on your spec sheet is indicated as 33Amp.

The rectifier circuit of the alternator does not have filter capasitors, as the battery act as 'n humungous capacitor. But the rectification is not simple full wave rectification, as the alternator is three phase. So √2 cannot be used to determine the RMS power/voltage/ampere output. The rectifier on the alternator has a rectifier bridge consisting of six diodes (with a typical max reverse voltage of 60V only) that provide full wave rectification of all three phases. Hence the ripple effect should be very low.

Can any sparky shed light on:

Is the Amps and Volts stated the peak of the sine wave or the RMS?
What on earth does "33A ripple current" mean?
Wether the alternator is configured star delta or Wye determines optimum output to be at lower or higher revs, which is which?
