HELP! Y61 Radio Aerial

Post by Gerrit Loubser »

My Y61 Patrol's radio aerial has a couple of stripped teeth right at the bottom of the toothed strip, so when the motor pushes the mast right up to the top, it emits a growling noise and won't retract until one assists it a little by hand. I duly ordered a replacement mast from Nissan and picked it up on Friday afternoon.

This afternoon I tried to replace the mast. According to the manual, it is the easiest possible operation:
Undo the nut on the fender (one can use circlip or needle nose pliers as a "special tool" to accomplish this) and then switch the radio on to extend the mast and simply remove it.

This is exactly what I did, but there was no way that the mast would budge so that I could extract it  . I then stripped the inner fender out and removed the mechanism, but I still could not get the mast out. Has anyone battled with this problem and solved it?

Luckely mine was replaced by the panelbeater after they cut off the co-ax. The motor used to run but the aerial did not move.

One of my gripes with the Patrol. I have now been without aerial for a year and am looking for a replacement whip aerial. Don't want to hijack your thread, but thought this might be an appropriate spot to post.

Replace the telescopic with a wipe antena, less electronics to go wrong,wrong,wrong......

A good radio shop should be able to do it in double time, and supply a good quality aerial!

Hi all,

Seem like my patrol is falling appart now faster than i can drive it.

Gerrit (Loubser) i see that you say you ordered a new antenna mast and cable, where did you get hold of it, please let me know.

I took out my unit and after opening it i saw that the plastic cable broke.

I phoned eveyone in the yellow pages that does car radios, and they all reffered me to the agents(whoopee)

So, made the call to good old Nissan, they cant supply me with just the mast and cable only with the whole unit, what a joke, R4637.48, for a car antenna, you can imagine the words used to descripe there complete ripoff of the public.

Please anyone who can let me know where to get just the mast and cable let me know.

Ps: Anyone know where i can get my patrol serviced in Cape Town (Northern Sub), i dont "smaak" the agents a lot...

JR

If you get a decent response or find a source of parts for the aerial, please post!
While I was reversing into the garage, I bent the @#$^% aerial the wrong way. After some choice words and bending the individual pieces to resemble a reasonably straight aerial, I now have a semi erect aerial as it does not fully extend and it emits a rather worrying growl.

Will need to maak 'n plan in the new year ... but not at R4000 + ...

As far as servicing is concerned, you have the following choices In the northern suburbs:
Nissan Stealers:
Imperial Nissan - Voortrekker rd Parow - Knowledgeable, but it depends who works on your vehicle. They did not solve all my issues.
JB's Nissan - Malmesbury (Will be able to tell you after Wednesday ...)

Non Nissan:
JB's Auto - Johan Meyer - cut his teeth on Toyos

... and maybe some others that I am not aware of ...

Good luck

JR, I think the only place to get the mast is from Nissan. They also told me the story about only supplying the entire elecric aerial unit (at R3600 in my case), but I knew that the mast was available separately, so I insisted. they had to order it specially, but I got it in a couple of days. The part number for the mast on my 4.5 GRX is 282150P006 and it cost R855.51 including VAT.

The other (probably better) option is to simply ditch the electric aerial and fit a good quality whip aerial.

Thanks for response guys.

I send a mail to Nissan SA and can you believe my surprise when they phoned me back.

I told them the whole sad story that the agents only want to sell me the whole unit. Nissan SA sent one mail to Nissan Claremont and guess what....

Got a mail from Nissan Claremont:

Good Day Mr. van Rooyen.
The part that you require cost R892.51.Please confirm whether I should order it.It should take about 2-3 working days.
Thanx.

Cheslyn Weaver
Imperial Nissan (Claremont)
021-6734600

Now i ask you how is it possible for them to order it now, some days i just want to shove a hot iron you know where and hope they all wake up.

So that sorted.
Thanks for help guys

ZAR100.00 !!!!!!!!
Same problem here.....
I live in Riyadh, and also first checked the price at Nissan. ooooiiiii it was SAR400 (about ZAR900)
so went next door to the private spares - (in the Middle East you have zones, like pram street or mattress street, our... parts street.)
and could not believe that the insert - made in China, was SAR39, i guess about ZAR100 (one hundred)

So if anyone wants one, drop me an email, and i will bring one (or two three four) when I next come down or can send it with a friend.

Just to confirm, it is the telescopic arial, and the while plastic flex toothed thingmabob attached inside the telescopic arial.
