Winch Upgrade and Battery Terminal Connectors

Post by Chris Skinner »

What battery terminal connectors do you use?
I am struggling to find good quality heavy duty battery terminals to replace the OEM ones that come standard with the vehicle - I find that the standard ones are not ideal for adding other heavy duty leads eg winch etc.
I am considering a setup where I would attach a solid piece of copper to the terminal and then bolt the various leads to that. The copper obviously thick enough to handle the full amps draw for winch etc.
Any advice would be welcome

Thanks Tinus - I will then have all the goodies together for the modified winch (9,5XP motor on my old M8000) and the new generation Albright solenoid box (water proof) that should handle the extra Amps with ease - see photo below. The solenoid is about 1/5 size of my original Warn one... and I see Warn are also selling a similar branded one at 3 times the price.
Now just need to upgrade the wiring to 70mm2 as we discussed before.
With the 9.5XP motor which has 6hp vs 4.6hp of the old motor and the lower gearing than the 9.5XP winch, this should now be an awesome beast!
Total price for mods is approx R2400 vs R16500 for a new 9,5XP!!!! :woo: :blonde:

Uprated Warn Winch now fitted with new solenoid box and wireless remote control, and wired control.

The best improvement however is the new modified battery terminal and teh 70mm2 electric cablerunning from battery, through the soilenoids and all the way to the winch - approx double the square mm area of cable compared to orginal warn OEM cables.

I expect major improvements all round!! :blonde: :woo:
