Alternator
The alternator on my patrol has finally called it a day. Anybody have a spare 24v alternator they want to sell? Otherwise can you recommend a reputable technician in JHB.
Thanks

Re: Alternator
Thanks, I'll wait a couple of days. Mine has a vacuum pump on the back so not sure how readily available a replacement will be but I'm sure there are a could of guys who have changed from 24v to 12v who may have one in their garage.
I adjusted my valve clearances on Sunday, the difference in engine noise is astonishing. Sounds Iike a new motor again.

Re: Alternator
Adrian, I'm sure you have a 12V and not a 24V set up. I replaced my Hitachi 60Amp (12V) on my diesel with a 90Amp. I can't remember the make, and when I had a regulator fail, and it takes a standard Bosch regulator. Was quick and cheap to repair.

Re: Alternator
Adrian, is it not just brushes, bearings and possibly regulator?
Finding a 24V unit with vacuum pump sounds difficult?

145 Amp alternator for about R2000!Kagiso II wrote:Christo het 'n 100 amp alternator op Chuck gesit

I agree with Ricster: If you do not have two 12V batteries, chances are good that you're running a 12V alternator.

Re: Alternator
Adrian.... I'm not doubting you mate... but something is making me very confused. Maybe the other guys here will correct me if I'm wrong. Is it not only trucks that run 24v and cars ( even our big Patrols) run on 12v?
Are your 2 batteries connected in series?
If running on 24v does one not need special radio's, light bulbs etc to handle 24v? And a 24v starter?
If Adrian's Patrol is running on 12v with the second battery connected in parallel, then how is the gauge showing 24V.......
