Lock and Ignition keys with electronics
HELP!
I bought the 2007 Patrol with only one key. It is the version that has the electronics (transponder ?) in the rear portion of the key, allowing for keyless entry by pressing the rubber opening button.
OK, so I approached my local Nissan stealer this afternoon, wishing to purchase a spare key (when overlanding and there is more than one vehicle, we exchange spare keys, in case there is a mishap).
So here is the rude Friday afternoon shock:
front steel part of key = R 1013, 05
rear electronic part that clips into front part = R1673,90
plus R250 for the coding = R 2936,95
THREE GRAND for a bloody spare Key ... this is insane!!!! Unless I have a warped sense of what things should cost!
Anyone out there with contacts or a better (cheaper) idea of how to obtain a spare key thyat will work with the car's immobiliser etc ?
Help would br REALLY appreciated.

Re: Lock and Ignition keys with electronics
It is easy enough to get the key coded once you have the new remote.
You could also get another key cut at most locksmiths and tape the transponder section of your key close to the steering. Open your car manualy with the keys and this will save a lot of money and no extra coding of a new transponder unit.

Re: Lock and Ignition keys with electronics
I'm sorry to hear that it is so expensive, but I'm glad that you can purchase the parts seperately. The electronic transponders on both my keys looks decidedly worn.
