4.8 handbrake light

Post by hugejp »

Yesterday my handbrake light flickered while on the highway, the handbrake was completely free/down.

Then later it came on again for about 2km as a solid light.

Again checked & the handle was all the way down.

It hasnt happened again, but it does make me a bit worried.

Could the shoes be wearing out & binding? Or is it just a faulty switch?

Have you checked your brake fluid level ?

Not near an owner's manual at the moment, but most vehicles use the handbrake light as a fluid warning light as well. So it may perhaps be that your fluid is low.

Yip, I second that. When the brake fluid level is low, the handbrake light is used as a warning.

Check your brake pads.
As they wear out the brake fluid level will drop.
