Re: Crunch sound at left front
Looks to me like someone has done a bit of butchering.
The OME trim packers look different and are yellow.
Your crunch sound has probably got something to do with this.
Does the other side have this rubber tubing on?

Re: Crunch sound at left front
The car was in fact a Nissan Factory demo. The photo is the right (silent) side. On the left it came loose and I refitted it with cable ties, but the sound persists. It is not very loud or heard always on crossing a speed bump, but it annoys me.

Re: Crunch sound at left front
Those rubber tubes should not be there, but more importantly they should not be necessary.
The coils should never touch each other, and it is the bump stop's job to prevent that.
If they are touching, then either the bump stop is damaged, or the springs are non-standard and too long.
If they are not touching, this is not the source of the noise.

Re: Crunch sound at left front
Can bump stops be bought from any aftermarket (suspension) fitment center, or only from Nissan?

I suspect only Nissan?

Re: Crunch sound at left front
Ok, I was away for a month and JB Nissan in Malmesbury collected the car from my son in Bellville. The replaced both front coil bases with what looks like a professional nylon mounting, end of problem.
Funny how a small thing could be so irritating, but the car in only a pleasure now.

Re: Crunch sound at left front
I got some noise coming from my left front coil when driving over bumps. Had the bakkie jacked up at supa quick, then noticed some play(vibration) on the coil. This is causing the noise.
Does it mean that the coils are kaput?

Re: Crunch sound at left front
I have had that "kreun" heavy squeek / kraakgeluid on both my Hard Bodies. Also on Agarob [but that was fixed .. damn if I know how .. Wynand at SUPA QUICK fixed it] And lately I sometimes get it from Inyathi as well
BUT whenever we do a trail there are often a number of Patrols doing that squeek

Re: Crunch sound at left front
Do you get the heavy squeek / kraakgeluid on turning the steering all the way to the stop? I had the same problem with both Sani's I owned and heard it on some other vehicles as well. In that case it was the stopper bolt rubbing on the stopper cup. I originally fixed it with a dab of grease, but eventually cured it by forcing a small piece of hosepipe over the stopper bolt, just longer than the bolt itself.
I shall look I can take a pic of the Patrol coils tomorrow.
