Pulling Left

Post by DaleB »

My Patrol, a ZD30 GU with 2" lift and 33" tires is pulling very badly to the left. I know that the Patrol pulls normally left but this is way worse than anything else I have driven. I already have castor correction bushes fitted... helped nothing.

Where can I take the car for some proper diagnostics and fixing? Pretoria area.

If I knew exactly what it was I could fix it but have no desire/time to start a trial and error routine.

I would first take it to Autowiel in the Southern part of Centurion (ask for Barend)
Few understand solid axles these days, but they do.
If they cannot help, they are more likely than others to tell you what is wrong.

Hi Dale

Yes, it can be very annoying when your car doesn't drive like it should.
I think the pulling left problem is one of the hardest things to cure on a Patrol because you cannot move the left front wheel forward like with other cars.

Whats the mileage on your Patrol? You might have other bushes on the suspension that are worn which produces the pulling left effect.

I have around 150k on the clock. I have replaced radius to chassis with new original and radius to diff with dobinsons caster correction bushes. Rest are original to my knowledge. Type pressure are spot on, I run 2bar all round.

2 bar is a bit low in my opinion. The Patrols are very heavy and I would sugest inflating to at lease 2.2 bar and see what effect that has.
I run mine on 2.4 bar as a norm.

Get a full 3-D wheel alignment check, and let's see what the figures look like?

I don't think it has much to do with Castor. I have pushed my castor all the way from 1.5Deg to 7.5deg and mine pulls the same way to the left.

It's a bugger on cornering to the right as it seems the steering is vague compared to turning to the left. At higher speeds it sometimes feels like it is going to catch me out, and with the amount of body roll I have on a 7.5" lift, it gets to feel dangerous sometimes, especially if it pushes you to, and nearly off, the edge of the road.

Lest weekend I was loaded with a fairly big sound system for a Gig we did, and I found it felt slightly worse with all that weight so high up.
