My guilty secret
My poor car. It has been banging and crashing for a while now, due to the lower control arm bushes being rather tired. I have neglected it, claiming poorness and also enjoying the added flex.
But this is getting beyond ridiculous...
So now the question is, what to replace with. My car is lifted, but not much (probably the springs have sagged somewhat over the years), so I can probably get away without caster correction, although on the other hand I feel that caster should rather be too much than too little.
However, I firmly believe that rubber is much better in this application than polyurethane. Don't get me wrong, poly is a magic material, but in this application, I firmly believe rubber is better as it is more flexible and handles heavy vibrations better (poly collapses after a while).
The cheap option would have been to have them rebuilt by somebody like Syd's, but I have had bad results with this in the past. So in the end I bought genuine.
For those that are interested, the Nissan part numbers are:
Lower control arm bushes (axle to control arm joint): N5456001J00
Lower control arm bushes (axle to chassis joint): N5447601J00
Steering damper bushes: N56119V000
But this is getting beyond ridiculous...

Re: My guilty secret
Are those for stock suspension or does Nissan stock bushes with caster correction?

Re: My guilty secret
Jonathan, just under R3k for the 12 bushes in question.
Cedric, these are standard bushes. I have a trick up my sleeve to fix the caster.

Re: My guilty secret
Tinus helped me today, baie dankie mater.
This is what they looked like when taken out.
Preperation (this is something you won't see often):
I decided to use the opportunity to finally fit the X-link setup I have been planning for so long.
New yellow underpants: And the (nearly) final product: I have only taken a short drive, and it's like a different car. No more banginig and crashing, and it seems to be a whole lot more stable on the road.
Flex will still be limited by the shocks (which I have not replaced yet), but I climbed a 1m high wall with one front wheel without lifting any of the other wheels.
I still need to fit the lockout and it's cable mechanism, but that will happen soon.
Cedric, the caster correction is done by sorting the geometry of the x-link.

Re: My guilty secret
Peter dit lyk regtig great!
Kan jy dalk so bietjie meer verduidelik oor die "X-link" sisteem?
