PATROL HEIGHT!

Post by G-MAN »

Hi GUYS. :helpsign: Can anyone please tell me the standard height of a 1999 4500 gl patrol with 16 inch rims and a 2006 4800grx auto with 17 inch rims. Normally measured from the bottom of the rim to lip of plastic trim.

Eish Gerhard...would love to help, but I think thats going to be a tall order.

I recon the majority of '99 4.5 gl`s were probably lifted already by 2001!! Maybe you still have a shot at the 4.8 though!

For what its worth, I looked back at the OME card from my van (`98 4.2D gl) and the pre-fitment distances with 16inch rims were 755mm for the front and 775 for the rear. I recon those figures should be fairly close to what a std `99 4.5 gl would read.

Post OME (heavy duty kit) the numbers (as of 500km check) were 810mm front, and 840mm rear

Hope that helps a bit?

Cheers,

Ross

OK G-man, you got me out of my comfy armchair in front of the TV, into the rain and the garage to take the measurements
(I have been wondering about the same thing though ...)

So here it is:
2007 4.8GL (manual) with standard suspension, standard 275/70/16 Bridgestone D694 HT tyres pumped to 2,4 bar and half a tank of fuel.
The front bumper is an ARB unit fitted recently (50 kg) and currently there is one recovery gear ammo box in the rear and a Bosal towbar.

Front reading from bottom of rim to bottom of plastic fender flare: 760 mm (measured through the centre of the hub)
Rear reading from bottom of rim to bottom of fender plastic flare: 765 mm (measured through the centre of the hub)

I suspect the ARB front bumper has made quite a difference. I can certainly feel it in that it feels as if that top bit of flex and articulation has gone compared to the std setup with the plastic bumper. I would suggest you get a front reading from someone with a std bumper.

Cheers

Hi G-Man,

Here are the brow height figures (distance from bottom of rim flange to bottom lip of plastic wheel arch extension) for my 1999 4.5E GRX which is pretty much stock standard other than the 285/75R16 BFG MT KM2 tyres (which don't affect the suspension height) and a Frontrunner Windcheetah 2.2m roof rack (which might have a small effect). My Patrol has almost 220000 km on the clock and has done quite a bit of dirt roads in the hands of the previous owners, so I suspect there would have been some sagging:

Front
Left: 765 mm
Right: 748 mm

Rear
Left: 755 mm
Right: 742 mm

Interessant.
Voor: 820mm
Agter: 800mm
Dis hoekom hy so swaar op petrol is. Die ding loop heeltyd opdraend. Sal maar kyk na airshocks/airbags.
Ek het raksisteem met 2 batterye, yskas en ammo krat met recovery gear agter in. Wat snaaks is die voertuig vertoon gelyk.
