Dust leak around handbrake

Post by hugh »

During my last trip to Botswana in my GU wagon, driving across Sua Pan there was a major dust storm coming out of the handbrake slot. I haven't investigated much yet, but any ideas if this is normal, or what the cause could be?

Under the leather gear-lever boot there is a second rubber boot.

I suspect it might be that that is split.

I would strongly recommend checking it out soonish, and if it is split, replace the gearbox oil, because if this is the case, some of that dust could have gotten into the gearbox as well.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Or if you had some work done (clutch replacement) the ARTISAN did not replace all the spares correctly..

I eventually took out the central storage compartment and found three large threaded holes through the floor (under where the rear ashtray is). No idea what these are for, but I plugged them and after the last trip through Moremi there was no dust from that area.
