Torn vinyl repairs

Post by ChristoSlang »

Gents, a vicious gazebo attacked my Patrol's left rear door panel and ripped the vinyl apart. :helpsign:

The vinyl was initially quite stretched, but seems to be returning to its original shape. There's nothing missing either - the edges line up OK:

So - what's the best way to tackle this? I'm thinking of removing the door trim, removing the damaged panel from the door trim, removing the vinyl from the panel, removing the layer of foam (that's glued to the vinyl from behind) and then fixing it from the back. I'm sure that a nice big patch (bicycle tube stuff) will work a treat from the inside. After that I'll replace the missing foam and assemble everything nicely again.

Has anybody done something like this before - I'm eagerly awaiting any tips & tricks!

Ouch!!!
