Right rear barn door
Has anyone notice negative effects from having larger than standard tyres on the right hand side rear barn door?
Mine's not quite looking as flush as I remember (I'm also always inventing things to go wrong according to swambo), also clacking a bit so will check out Gerrit's fix according to http://www.patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=848 ..
My wheel bracket is extended through a bunch of washers. I occasionally use the spare wheel to get onto the roof rack, as a table to get things onto the roofrack etc, pretty sure repetitive use this way isnt great in the long run, but again the door looks pretty well secured.
Cheers

Re: Right rear barn door
Hi Dave
No problems yet with mine, although it has squeecked and leaked dust ever since I got it. I also use mine as ladder etc.
Cheers

Re: Right rear barn door
My tyres are not that much bigger than standard but, I AM, and I have used the tyre as a ladder for a year now. Even with the frontrunner ladder I still sometimes use the spare as it is less hurtfull on the feet...
In short, no negative at all

Re: Right rear barn door
Hi Dave
Have quite a bigger size tye than normal (305/70/16 compared to 265/75/16 standard) on my door - had to havemy bracket modified quite a bit. A part from the door being quite a bit heavier I have not noticed any negative effects - yet!! Had the bigger size tyre on there for just over a year now.
I do have a ladder on the right hand door but like everyone else also us he spare as a step between getting onto and off the roofrack. I do get a bit of dust in and have noticed a rattle on my rear doors when driving badly corrigated roads - normal tar or gravel / dirt roads and its fine.
Regards

Re: Right rear barn door
I don't think it really matters how big the wheel/rim combination is - to a certain degree we are all experiencing exactly the same symptoms. My Patrol (one of those EU-versions which one very often sees in Zim, Zambia, Malawi, Moz, etc.) was factory fitted with 6jjx16 rims and 235 tyres, a combination I would think shouldn't put too much stress on the rr barn door. Not so - it squeaks when you open it, rattles on corrugated roads and is everything but dust proof! And who doesn't use the spare wheel as a ladder?
So in this case it is different but same same.

Re: Right rear barn door
Hi Dave,
I have a 285/75/16 Big Horns on and no Problem. I have fitted the 1,6 m high lift jack to the rear and now I believe I have a problem. Problem is I do not know where else to put it.
