Strange phenomenon,....with pics
Took my seats out today to find out my they were rattling (see other thread) , but while i had them out i took out the carpet (ok , vinyl, and soundproofing) as i could see alot of dust and grime. However, too my horror i found a crap-load of sand and stones, and i mean a lot! how did this get in here, as there are no reasonable way they could have made it there,...please help..
This is what else i found other than sand and stones...
38 dead wasps in various states of rigger-mortise
A Scooters Pizza fridge magnet
6 Cigarettes in various states of structural integrity
About 200 loose staples
2 yellow BB Gun Pellets
lots of random papers and bits of stuff
About 5 news species of moths! (never seen before in my life - bright, big, scary!)
A colony of strange little beetles the size of a tiny ant (luckily all dead)
And a live .22 Cal round
(which i only saw at the last minute before being sucked into my Extra Heavy Duty Kirby vacuum cleaner, which at that point i was sure the velocity of the spinning impeller was going to set that round off, which resulted in me diving for cover. luckily nothing happened and i got the bullet out.
Here's where you chaps must check, specially if you like water crossings, as this kind of stuff will never dry under there and more than likely start the oxidisation process , yes people, rust, and rust is just like that middle son who's in jail, everyone knows about it but nobody talks about it. Dont let it get that far, check yours today! and tell me how the hell it gets there.... here's the pics

Russ was the Patrol ever standing for a long time? Ants have an unbelievable ability to work while we sleep, carrying all sorts of things into their "nests".... although i dont claim to be an ant expert

G-Man, did exactly that, hoovered the crap outa thing, its the only time i ever felt masculine with a vacuum cleaner in my hand
Dave,Negative, vehicle never stood for long so luckily no ants or rats to eat through anything, the ant referral was to the small tiny bugs the SIZE of small ants. I assume though that mud and grasses thrown up by ploughing mud terrains can fix themselves to wheel arches on crevasses, and when it starts to dry and the little guys possibly contained in flying debris are no longer in shock, they run for "the hills" in the direction of the cab,...just a theory.
Interestingly i read one of "holgates" books a few years back, "capricorn" i think it was called. Circumnavigating the globe by landrover and dhow, when they reached the shores of Australia, his Landies were off loaded from the ship and immediately underwent inspection as per stringent Auzzie law. Although Holgate knew of this earlier, and had taken action before hand and had them strip cleaned from head to toe, he was caught out when they spotted a tiny globule of mud between the spare diesel tank and the chassis. he was given 24 hours to get his vehicle off Auzzie soil!!! Subsequently he shipped them to Fiji or Thailand or something to have them re-cleaned, and then had to go through the whole process again in Auz. At reading this i was dumbstruck at the intolerance's of Auzzie law, yet after seeing what is stowing away in MY truck, i'm not surprised. next thing you introduce an alien species of ant or beetle and it wipes out there entire hierarchy in the insect world or something,.....hectic.

Re: Strange phenomenon,....with pics
Russ -- dumb question - but did you the 'Trolli NEW or used?
If NEW, then the dealership must explain that - because they sold you their DEMO item. NO other way cig butts can end up there.
But you can check the backingplate in the wheel arch - if it seals proper - LOT of akkies can bounce up there from the wheels
[the BB pellet & 22 round makes me think though ... someone with a young boy [6 - 12, maybe 13] was driving that vehicle before you. And he smoked [are all the cig' the same brand?

Re: Strange phenomenon,....with pics
Russ, it is impossible that your car originates from up here in Pretoria and further north. If it lived here before there would have been 300 Win Mag rounds, buffalo skin and kudu horns in there. I suspect the previous owner of your Patrol was a very nervous creche owner who's daily smoking habit killed a lot of insects..........
Patrol fan!
