Patrol stuck in Park mode

Post by IR_Eddie »

Please help. Patrol is stuck in park. Can't shift to drive or reverse and have to press the little shift lock button to engage in gear. My feeling is that it might be a sensor or something as it feels the same as when you are not engaging the breaks while attempting to shift from park mode.

Its a '07 4.8 Grx with 100k on the clock.

Just for interest- while driving through the karoo my patrol clicked over to 100k as i was driving into a small town and lost total power. Luckily it was a down hill and i managed to crawl to the garage. Switched on and of but no luck. Filled the up with petrol (still had a 1/4 tamk left) and when i started it again she was fine. Was strange that it happened an exactly 100k.

Try to reset the system by removing the battery for 20 minutes [some say an hour] :oldtimer: :oldtimer:

Hi Eddie

Check to see if the brake lights are working. The brake switch on the pedal might not be working in some vehicles the same switch works for the brake lights.

How many litres went in after you filled up? Could the fuel guage be faulty?

Cant remember but is was just a one of problem. Did 3000km since then with no issues. Was just interesting that it happened on exactly 100k.

Ill check the brake lights and also remove the battery later today.

Also had to press the shift-release button to put in drive but mine was a blown fuse. Replaced it and is now fine. I think all the additional brake lights are putting a bit of strain on the fuse

Was towing a trailer when it happened. You might be right that it might a fuse. Was it a fuse in the cab or one of the fuses in the engine compartment?
