The clutch only started slipping at Maun (with trailer in tow) on my way back to SA. I had to nurse it to get to SA and just short of Potties it went.

So in your case it gave you some warning. I did not experience any warning. So if it is the clutch, then it failed dramatically and quickly and with now discernible sound.
I will do the diagnoses that Peter has suggested, once I have the car again. It remains in storage with Graham for now. Will most likely take it back to the original engine converter to disassemble and fix/replace. Another thing with conversions....not everyone is keen on working on them. They do not know what they are going to unearth.

If the end is held against the gearbox and with the engine running the clutch is stroked, there should be a change in sound. Also different gears should make different sounds. Remember that even with the box in neutral, most of the gearbox internals should still be rotating with the clutch released, and coasting to a stop when it is pressed.
I'll just start it let it idle and see if i can change gears without using the clutch, without getting the steto out. If you can put it into reverse and 1st without the clutch then you know you have a problem in the input/clutch side , and then check if the 4x4 lights come on when you have 4h and 4l, that will show if your short lever is engaging or at least moving something in the transfer cases

Hello Alex.

Groete

(1) The knuckle at the base of the gear lever slipped off so the lever moves but the gears stay in neutral.
(2) any of the aforementioned glitches .. but still not 'lekker'

Anders sal ek daarna moet shop vir ratkas of parte.

Ek gaan heelwaarskynlik nie 'n vakansie kar he nie. Moet nou begin plan maak....
