Propshaft universal joint
So while I am bust fixing a diff oil leak and building a rear bumper I noticed the rear universal joint on my propshaft needs replacing.
The next problem is that I cannot find one at the local Midas. Obviously the Patrol uses one a bit larger than the avarage car.
Does anyone know where I can find one?
It has a 32mm cup and measures 100mm accross with inside cerclips
I will check the dealers on monday

Re: Propshaft universal joint
Peter, yes I have made about 10 calls to every number I could find with no joy. This includedareas in Pretoria an JHB.
The problem is that the Patrol is not listed in the parts cataloque which I find strange. And when giving the dimentions to the bearing places seem to confuse them as they have never heard of that size. Fist question I get is "are you sure that is the size"
Nissan requires R2,600 for two universal joints after a 10% discount
BUT...... I may have found two joints in Rosslyn....... will give some feedback once I have then in my hand

Re: Propshaft universal joint
This may sound too obvious, but did you try Dawid.
Sure he must have some.
Why did they need replacing?
I was under the impression if you regularly grease them they should go the distance

Re: Propshaft universal joint
Alex, Im sure David must have, but I prefer new parts when it comes to bearings and universal joints. Its one of those things that can leave you in the middle of no where when they fail.
Only the one needs replacing, it had a bit of play in it so Im doing both while I have the propshaft out.
I have hreased them every 10,000km but my Patrol has 270,000km on and I have no idea how the previous owner maintained it. I have heard a funny noise coming from the rear diff when driving long distances so I think it was shot before I even had the vehicle

Re: Propshaft universal joint
I went through a process with the Sani with UJ's that came from Midas and places that fit very loose in the yolks. They also did not last long.
When I eventually cut the center bearing out, the guys told me I had the wrong UJ's in. I took a note of the correct ones and bought spares on the spot. I have already used them for someone else who needed them.
I like to know and be sure I have the right stuff. It's no good finding these things out in the bush or some remote country.

Re: Propshaft universal joint
Sorry for not giving feedback yet.
So I did manage to find two universal joints from a friend in Rosslyn. They are original joints that he orgenised for a good price. I had our local propshaft place fit the joints and I had the propshaft balanced. It now feels awesome on the road, no vibration or anything. Slip joint is also still as new.
As for aftermarket universal joints.......I still dont know where to get
