Gearbox oil - Which would you choose right now?
Hi chaps,
If you were replacing gearbox oil (50B Box - as in all GU Manuals, incl 4.2D), which gearbox oil would you purchase ? I have the 4.2D, which is well known for reverberation noise at low RPM as a result of harmonic resonance, so i'm not keen on anything with light viscosity,as this would obviously accentuate the noise.
I've been using:
Castrol GL4 80W-90 - Gearbox
Castrol Transmax Dex 3 - Transfer Case
Castrol GL5 EPX 80W-90 - Front Diff
Castrol Syntrax 75W-140 Limited SLip - Rear Diff

Re: Gearbox oil - Which would you choose right now?
Russ,
I use 75W90 GL4 for the gearbox and transfer case
80W90 GL5 for the front and rear diffs, think I also have used EP90 as well......dont think it makes a differance.
I must say that since I started using 75W90 for the gearbox, my gear shifts have been allot better, specially when its cold in the morning. It is also a full synthetic one, but thats only because its the only one I could find.....they are very scarse
But on the gearbox noise at low rpm and idle there was no change
