I have not gone into it much because of budget. I'm still trying to work out if it's possible.

Uncle Mac, I've destroyed the possibility of Dana diffs. I have a Safari front and rear end that is going in. Dana don't come close to the ratios as standard, and a re-gear makes it too expensive. One axle is going to cost more than the entire Safari cost me for my spares I have collected for the conversion.

Malcolm, thanks. I saw a reference on Lokka's site, but it does not specify the exact axle. It just says 80-83 MQ Euro. I was going to send an email to find out. I did find some info on rebuilding H233 to replace the C200. They say the H233 is way stronger than the C200 and a better diff to lock and use for more extreme stuff.

But it's time and budget that keeps at Keyboard Worrier status :redface: . I'm just trying to get info to see if there is any major fabbing I may need to do now already, so that things don't get cut off too many times and welding on the chassis is kept to a minimum.

Somewhere in the back of my OLD [very old] head I have it that TERRANO uses the same diff as Patrol ??

I think you are referring to the H233, and that was on the rear end of the Terry, and front end of the Patrol, and on the "newer" models only. On the old MQ/Safari, it was still C200 up front with the H260 or H233 on the rear. I have ended up with the C200 on the front and H260 on the rear with 4.88 ratio. I can't seem to find any mention that the H233 was available in 4.88. If anything, I could do with 5.3 gearing for the 35" tyres. I am just going to have to live with the LSD on the rear and open front end, and try and make up for it with articulation, momentum and skill (read, brute force and ignorance :rolling: )

But this is why I have this little plan in the back of my head to play with independent wheel braking, but you are really limited to doing this on the rear only if you want to keep your braking system remotely legal. I have not found a way to do this on the front because of the limited space to run a second set of calipers.

But now I'm hijacking this thread :offtopic: . I'll just sit here and watch and see if anything pops up :pray:

Dink ek gaan ook nog sulkes op wire in myne eendag, met n groeperings knoppie menend dat die teenoorstaande wiele gelock kan bly en n nood af knoppie of dalk self n funksie dat as jy cluch en briek gelyk moet hy in nood in gaan en normaal funksioneer. Weet nie hoe Oom se handbriek werk nie maar die Patrol sn is heel reaktief ook as iets fout gaan. Mens moet net kreatief raak oor wanner die briek pedaal trap n reaksie gaan maak.

Die lekker ding van SA is dat: Wie gaan dit check al is dit onwettig. Dit is so te sê ABS :rolling:
Nes my Lorrie dink ek nie Oom gaan Oom sin ooit verkoop nie en selfs dan is dit nie n probleem om die voertuig deur die toets te kry nie.

En daar gebeur dit..... Dis die eerste keer wat iemand my OOM noem... Nou voel ek skielik oud :surprised: ....

Ek wil nie te veel peuter met die standaard brieke nie. Jou versekering is seker die die manne wat jou gaan uit vang die dag wat jy a Taxi stamp. Ek wil graag disks gaan agter, wat dit moontlik maak om hand briek apart te kan werk op die calipers. My handbriek is die ou propshaft tipe, so tweede stel handbriek kabels wat werk op die agter brieke is lekker. Ander opsie is om tweede stel calipers te dryf van handvatsel stelsel soos Reenen gedoen het in daai thread op die Community forum. Voor wil ek nie peuter nie.

Years ago i built a super-lightweight game viewer.
Beetle floor, old Combi gearbox with portal axles, modified beetle front suspension, custom rear suspension, nissan 1400 engine and so forth.

I modified the handbrake lever to have three levers. One for each rear wheel, and the middle one pulled up both.

The conclusion: practically useless. I could not apply enough braking effort to make any noticeable difcerence.

If i ever tried it again, it will be a hydraulic system.

Peter, it would have worked if you had Torsen type torque biasing diffs. You only need 5 ft/lb (lb/ft??) of resistance on one wheel to send the power to the other wheel which has traction.

So my idea with a second set of calipers on the back with hydraulic "handles" will work better. It's just to find the space for this stuff in the cab when the vehicle is your daily driver.
