4.8GRX Autobox problem - Clueless????

Post by neilraulstone »

Hi , I have a 2004 Patrol 4.8 GRX with auto transmission, a few months ago I started the patrol and reversed as normal, and when I engaged Drive, the at light flashed on the dash,I pulled away and the vehicle was stuck in 3rd or 4th and could almost not get going. Took it to the dealer, Foult code was" Lower coast brake solenoid circuit", so they replaced my entire valve bank. Got the Patrol back and after one week it did exactly the same, after diagnostics they checked all the connectors and harness to tcm where after they cleared all faults and reprogrammed the G/box. Drove the Patrol 5 days and it is doing exactly the same, The dealer doesn't know what the couse can be(mechanical or electrical)..... has anyone maybe had the same type of problem....

neil, the only suggestion i have is to work through the workshop manual yourself and do some of the tests- I'm not sure what type of specialised equipment you will need and how technical you are - from your business it does sound that you are technical . You might PM Graham Cummins, Dennis or Tour de France on some ideas as they have a very good technical knowledge of the vehicles.

Thanks guys for the feedback, we are busy working thru the workshop manual to see if we can find something.I presume that the oil levels are correct and that the filter is clean as they did replace the entire valvebank...will do follow-up with nissan. I will keep you posted if we resolve this problem.....

At last..Light at the end of the tunnel.... :blonde: Had an auto electician do some tests, he found a fault(Worn wire) in the main harness leading from the Gbox to the computer witch caused the Gbox to go into limp mode.
