Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Gents,

The problem started only 200km ago. The previous oil change done by Dastec Centurion was done about 10 or 12K km ago, it was filled with an API GL5 oil. I think it is a LSD oil.

My Truck only has 126K km on(too low perhaps).

I will do the oil change tomorrow and have a look see.

Mine has 384k km and I will be taking it to a Nissan approved agent. He has indicated a maximum cost of R 6000 to fix. Will be doing it in the new year.

I had te exact same issue on my patrol. Vehicle went into Nissan Dealership for a service and they put in normal diff oil, NOT Lsd oil. Had all the same symptoms as you experience. Eventually i realised what they had done by looking on my invoice. Same shudder when pulling off left or right, none on straight pull away.

I dropped the oil and filled with LSD, drove 500km dropped it again and filled, this cycle i had to do 2 times before it was feeling good again, although it has never gone back to how it was as original.

Im still thinking about making this Nissan's prob;em to sort out at their expense, which would be easy as i have all the proof.

I posted all this a long time ago here on this forum, just do a search for LSD and you'll see the thread, there's methods of how to rectify this issue by means of flushing etc, but go have a look, its all there.

Yeah, thats where I got the idea from, to properly rinse the diff. I've read the whole thread about your problem. I've also had to fight a Nissan dealer at one stage, but I didn't have any proof to nail them on. If I was you I'd push for a replacement diff. Maybe get them to install one with a diff lock, all new ofcause(?).

I'm going t do the paraffin thing and let you know what happens.

Hi, ek het die sintetiese olie gebruik, Syntrax 75W-140.

Ek gaan die naweek Clarence toe, dan sal ek dit weer vervang wanneer ek terug is. Die diff vat maar 2,5 L en kos R260.

I've got a '98 GU TD42 with an LSD at the back, when i got my Troll the LSd wasn't working at all so I went through the process below after MUCH discussion with a lot of senior folk on the Aussie Patrol Forum.

Here's a description of what I did to resurrect my LSD (it had 320,000km's on it at the time...the post was by Ross, I don't usually talk about myself in the 3rd person ):

The method that we used to resurrect SRXy`s LSD was based on extensive research, and input obtained from the Aussie Patrol site. SRXy is overseas on business at the moment, but may still have the links to the specific posts saved somewhere...I`ll ask him when he gets back. Otherwise a bit of seaching on the Aussie site will probably unearth something similar to what I have outlined below:

Basically the method we followed was as follows:

1. Drain existing std diff oil, and refill diff with Paraffin.
2. Drive slowly to a parking area about 100m down the road and drive in circles (did approx 20 in each direction). The idea of this is to make the diff do some work, and to scrub up the friction plates. Note: The idea is to do this a lowish speed, not burnouts or doughnuts!!!
3. Drive slowly back to SRXy`s garage, drain paraffin, and re-fill with fresh paraffin and repeat step 2.
4. Drain paraffin again, flush diff with more parafin, allow to air dry for a few hours with both plugs removed, then refill with Castrol LSX
5. After approx 500km, Drain and Replace
6. By this Stage the LSD was back in action, and improved further over the next few weeks of driving with the correct oil.

The LSD is still working vigorously 5yrs and 50,000km's later......
