Hi Johan

There must be suction on both pipes. If the one is not as strong as the other, you have found your problem. You can take the pipe (That does not suck as strong) of the solenoid and give it a decent blow. Sommer put some Q20 in the solenoid as well. The diff lock disengage and engages with vacuum. The solenoid regulates to what pipe the vacuum is applied.

Hi Johan

When difflock is de-activated the top solenoid will supply a vacuum and the bottom should not blow or have suction.
When difflock is activated (difflock switch on and vehicle in 4x4) the bottom solenoid will supply a vacuum and the top should not blow or have suction.

To test you can also take the pipe from the bottom solenoid and put it on the top solenoid with the difflock switched off. You also don't have to put it in 4x4 if you test it this way. The difflock should kick in and you can test it by turning the vehicle on soft ground or grass as previously explained.

Thank you. johanp...I will follow your advice and test it by swoping pipes. The indication that something is wrong with selonoid is that the bottom valve supplies faint suction...at the same time when top valve supplies suction to disengage difflock.. When out of 4H & 4L.

When in normal drive you only suppose to have suction on top of valve to keep difflock disengaged....but at the moment you have strong top suction + faint bottom suction.

When in 4H or 4L and with difflock switch engaged you still have faint suction on bottom valve.

I just got a 4.8 and that solenoid is ceased up proper. Are these aftermarket units still available and whom can I contact to get hold of one?

As ek reg onthou het hy genoem dat hy die units begin oop maak en herbou het! Dis jare geleede wat ek van praat so kontak hom hy weet presies hoe die goed aanmekaar steek!

As this is a repair that should be done by the dealer that sold me the vehicle the only compromise I am willing to make is a new aftermarket product. I will ask for the faulty unit and maybe have that reconditioned as a spare.

As far as I know there are no aftermarket units available, only OME Nissan parts.

I gave John at PECS a call in CPT and provided him the MAC part number listed earlier in the thread. Apparently they can get it on order 4 - 6 weeks. Not sure if anyone has recently tried to order and if that part number is still valid. R1256 excl. Also not sure if the spec of the part has changed since the thread was still active.

Called Nissan and Quote for OEM is at R2596 Excl.
