Knock sensor code 0325 and overfueling

Post by biggles »

Hello All

On my recent Kaokoland trip I had the check engine light come on and had the codes read. it was 0325 Knock sensor.

I had it cleared and proceeded on for 400km before it reappeared.

I spoke to Tour de Frans and we agreed that is was a bad batch of fuel. I had 200l of the stuff but managed to swap it out for other petrol at a friendly station in Ruacana. Thinking we had the problem licked we proceeded into the nether. Anyway all was still not well and the car was overfueling and hesitating. There was nothing i could do at that point but proceed. To rule out fuel I ran the main tank to fumes and then filled up in Otjiwarongo with fuel from the busiest station and had the codes reset. All went well for 70km. When I started up the next day 1km down the road the light came on again and the engine was hesitating. I am back in Otjiwarongo and need to take the car back to RSA on the 20th.

So given all the different fuel I have had in it i would say it is not a fuel issue. It must be the knock sensor. Does anyone know where it is? How difficult is it to get at? Can I test it without getting to he sensor itself? I suspect that I will have to remove a lot of the chargecooler and inlet manifolds to get to the sensor. I am thinking if I can get to where the other end of the wires plug into the ECU I test the sensor without removing all the peripherals.

Ps I cannot reach frans.

Anyone know Nissan Windhoek? They seemed quite good when i went there to have the codes read.

Hi Steve

I chatted to Steven Green and your theory is in fact correct.
It is over fueling because of the knock sensor and the fault is directly related to the sensor.
Knock sensor will severely retard timing.
According to Steven either electrical (BAD CONNECTION/FAULTY WIRING) or mechanical fault with the sensor itself.

Cheers

So patrol is sorted and I am fuming... seriously pissed off.

The cause of the missing was two loose coils packs, missing screws and plugs loose. When the patrol was services before the trip I had the sparkplugs replaced. The @#@!$# that did the job must have not put the plugs from the coils back correctly. So it went in to Nissan for the first time (and i am talking a 600km drive) and they found the one coil. Then is started again after about 50km but I was already back on my way to otjiwarongo. So a second visit to Nissan they located the second loose coil. Now everything is 100%. And the guy that did the plugs is not answering the phone.

I also the same guy do the brake pads and disks before the trip... this is what i found underneath when I was looking for loose wires to the knock sensor...

That is a missing bolt on the brake caliper  I hesitate to think what would have happened if that had come adrift going down Hex Pass with the caravan hooked up as i did last week. I cannot image without getting shivers.
