Help - Engine Parts

Post by V75 »

Hi all

I need some help please. My 1996 Y60 4.2 Nissan Patrol is no longer a 1996. After 420.000 km and loss of compression and starting to use oil I decided to do an engine overhaul via one of my buddies (ex Nissan). He discovered that my car is (grey) import from the UK.
The Patrols of that era sold in SA did all come with a 4.5 or 4.8 engine, so I am probably the only 4.2 petrol Nissan Patrol in the country.
We can not find engine parts such as pistons, bearing etc for this engine.
Nissan SA has informed us that they can import them for us but a price tag of R30.000 is a bit much for my pocket
Has anybody go any suggestions or contacts???

Kind Regards

Johan, they are smoking their socks.

All the Petrol Y60's in SA have the 4.2 (TB42) engine. Mine had one too, but I have replaced it with a TB45, using the carburettor, inlet manifold and distributor from the 4.2. As a result, I did not need to modify the car in any way, except for having to fit an electric fuel pump. You can probably get a running 4.5 engine for around R15-20k, and do the same if you want. I can supply drawings for the adapter plate I made to fit between the cylinder head and intake manifold. Engine mounts, gearbox, clutch and exhaust manifold fit as is.

If you do want to re-build the TB42:
Bearings (both main and big-end) are the same as the TB45 and TD42. I have just re-built my TB45, and finding bearings was no problem. Pistons and gaskets also weren't a problem, although piston rings were a bit tricky, but these are different from the TB42.

Get hold of Pat at German Field Services, she supplied all the parts for my re-build.

Nee ek weet.

-Engine mounts, transmission mounts, struts, braces.
