How does it run?

If it's made 250 000 Km already then it should still be good to go.....haha.

I think the 3.0 diesel guys need to give their comments

Should be good for another 250000km just have it checked by Graham.

There is always the problem with older and even for that matter new vehicles that there is the possibility of a failure soon after you have bought it. Just be aware of the possibilities of failure and the cost when you buy and factor that into the cost and your risk profile!

Philip, basically the same car then as you have.

What could be most common failure?
What risk profile are you referring too? I will use it fir long distance travelling and hunting. Nothing else.

James,

Risk profile is a personal thing, 'if the vehicle beak down' would you still be able to travel to work, pay for the repairs, etc. this is a profile you need to build yourself and put weights against your points.

"On the other hand Darren": what could go wrong, wrong, wrong,........??????

That is the million dollar question!
  • motor seize
  • turbo fail
  • drive train fail (very unlikely)
  • etc.
As you have commented the vehicle has a FSH, there is a track record on repairs etc. Check if there is a EGT and boots sensors, they will indicate the motor was looked after by the previous owners. Normally the 2005 models and later the motor problems were sorted but the motor could be an earlier year model registered only in 2005 in SA. That said Juice on the forum has a 99 model, I think, and his is still going strong so to does Stefans. The main thing is look after the motor and it will look after you. I'm a light foot but do weight my trailer and vehicle when traveling, as I do not want to leave anything to chance, and never had a problem while touring in SA or over the borders.

I might be lucky or just a km away from a hand grenade, but LOVE my TROL ("Pappa se Paw-Patrol" as my daughter calls it) It's got space, is intimidating in traffic and apart from the motor should be unbreakable in the bush! (with a hammer and stupidity you can break anything!!!)

Take the vehicle to one of the forum gurus and let them go over the vehicle for you! They should pick up any obvious problems!

Hope your Patrol finds you!
