Nissan New VC-T Engine Replaces V6 Diesels

Post by ra_01 »

https://newsroom.nissan-global.com/rele ... tio-engine

VARIABLE COMPRESSION RATIO
Using an advanced multi-link system to raise or lower the height of the pistons’ stroke, the VC-Turbo engine offers any compression ratio between 8:1 (for power) and 14:1 (for efficiency)

POWER
Development teams are aiming for a 200 kW (272 ps, 268 hp) maximum power output and 390 Nm torque – higher specific power output
than many other four-cylinder turbo engines

REFINEMENT
The VC-Turbo’s multi-link system reduces
lateral movement of the connecting rods, creating just 10dB of vibration noise – 20 dB less than a conventional four-cylinder engine

FUEL EFFICIENCY
INFINITI is targeting up to a 27% improvement in fuel efficiency over similarly-powered V6 gasoline engines

Very Clever

Rahul

Interesting.......

I wonder about these small engines pumping out huge power. SWAMBO is looking at a new car, and the QashQui has this tiny 1.2L with a fancy turbo. Its not a tiny car being hauled along with a tiny engine. Similarly the huge heavy Patrol with a 4 cylinder engine doesn't make sense to me... next thing you know big rig trucks will have a 2.0 4 cylinder engine.... I cannot see longevity in these small motors in big cars. At least the post 2000 Patrols have a 3 liter motor and not some pisswilly little motor in it

Indeed it does sound complex, but new tec is always is, during initial phases. This is an engine with best of both worlds and 20years in making let’s hope they get this right.

Believe it or not Nissan is launching this new engine with Infiniti QX series this year or the next. They are killing their V6 diesels on the Infiniti line up.

Mr Warner, you sound like us when the Amaroks launched with their 2 liter engines. It's been a while since those early days, and by all indications they are at least as reliable as the 3.0 Patrol motors

Yeah I suppose you are right Christo. It just gives me the grillies that at some point in the not too distant future, big 4x4's like the Patrol will land up with at some point with something like a tiny 1.0 Litre 3 cylinder engine the way technology is evolving..... :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: both Petrol and Diesel !!!! Can you imagine seeing this beast of a car coming over the horizon sounding like a 50cc motorbike..... :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

... unless it's running on electrickery, in which case it will be (almost) quiet!

BTW: I watched the latest episode of top Gear last night, and the guys were fooling around big time on some Alta dirt bikes. If this is where their electric electric tech tech is heading (combined with ever tighter emissions legislation), our internal combustion engines may become history sooner than we think...

I know electric is all the buzz now, and several countries are trying to ban Internal Combustion, but both Mazda and Nissan are spending a lot of money on internal combustion. Nissan with this one, and Mazda with an opposed-piston design.

I believe this is because there are a couple of issues with EV's. The first one is that making the batteries required is significantly more harmful to the planet than making and running an internal combustion engine for a rather long period indeed. The second is that by far the highest proportion of electricity is generated using the very same fossil fuels used to power cars, and only a little more efficiently too. So while the car itself does not use fossil fuel or cause emissions, the over-all system uses similar amounts of fossil fuels and cause similar emissions (if you exclude the manufacture of the batteries)... And thirdly, electricity production is already under pressure world wide.

I firmly believe that unless there is a sudden and massive revelation in solar power generation, or they finally get hydrogen fuel cells to a practical state of development, Internal combustion may be with us for a while longer.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

As long as there are oil to pump and sell in the middle east, there will be internal combustion engines.
