Yes I will most definitely not be entertaining a repair. I want piece of mind when I am traveling...especially when it is in remote areas.

Hi all,

I wonder if we should be weary of buying genuine Nissan Patrol radiators.

After cracks in the plastic of the radiators caused leaking of coolant in both my Patrols (2004 4.8 GRX and 2006 4.8 GRX) I went and bought two genuine Nissan Patrol radiators from the Nissan dealership in Umhlanga last year as a precaution and got them fitted to my two Patrols in March by Peter Gow at Elecmech (whom I have been happily using for my two patrols since 2013 on the advice of one of the members of this forum). I have previously tried using three Nissan dealerships in the greater Durban area instead of Elecmech and have been sorely disappointed with the poor service and pathetic Patrol knowledge of the workshops and hence only using Elecmech for all my Nissan Patrol service work.

The 2006 Patrol suffered a radiator failure in December under normal driving conditions (the radiator was 9 months old at this point) where transmission fluid mixed with water inside the radiator causing gearbox trouble and overheating. There is no sign of any damage externally to the radiator to explain the part failure. Nissan will not cover any part not installed by a Nissan dealership and Nissan Umhlanga have not even bothered to inspect the part to understand what might have gone wrong.

I think there is a failure on Nissan's side to inspect the part and now I am in an interesting predicament where I am seriously considering an after market part as I don't trust Nissan. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?

Thanks

Hi Peter

Great to hear from you again! Those bash plates are great by the way! The engine seemed to be running fine but the gears were not engaging properly. Peter Gow at Elecmech is stripping the box to find investigate the problems. I'll update once I know more.

I am now at the point to buy a new radiator and as suggested I tried to contact Frans here in CPT at the supplied number earlier in the post. Can anyone confirm if this number is still valid? Zero 8 Three 40 Nine 2 50 Nine.

Yip that is the number I have. I do know it's not always easy to get hold of him sometimes, as he is probably under a car with oily hands ....hahaha, but keep trying him

I got hold of Thinus who was uber helpfull and I managed to source a radiator from Coolair Radiators in Stikland. Service was amazing and they even delivered it to my house at 19:00 ........ on a Friday evening.
