Radiator

Post by jacquesW »

Hi All

My 2006 4.8 has sprung a leak on the radiator (On the top plastic part) and I am going to have to replace it. It started as a very small hole when I was away on holiday over December and I tried to contain it best possible with Steenvas to get home. It has now progressed into a proper leak and is not safe to drive anymore, unless I'm hoping to blow a head. Does anyone have recommendations as to what to fit or whom to go to in the Western Cape. What type of $ am I in for?

Thanks

Jacques

Graham, up here in Pretoria, generally replaces them with a radiator manufactured by Tombo.

My 4.5 radiator cost about R4K, if I remember correctly.

Pretty sure one can get one couriered down there relatively easily.

The best Patrol guru in the Cape is Frans ( tour de Frans here on the forum). He is sometimes a little difficult to get hold of as he is probably under a vehicle, but call him on zero eight three 4 zero nine 25 zero 9

Try CHE Radiators in Paarl,

They rebuild the patrol's intercooler and very good help thus far.

Cant you just have the radiator fixed?
Maybe see what silverton radiators can do. I had a leak on my radiator which they fixed. (on the 4.5)

the problem with todays radiators are that it consist of a aluminium core and plastic upper and lower tanks which are crimp together with a rubber seal to avoid water leaks..
And as we all know alu is sensitive to bending,so yes they can temp. fix it but no warranty .And the last thing I want to do is jump in my Patrol and drive watching the heat gauge the whole time waiting for the steam to come over the bonnett and ruining my trip
SO NO REPLACE IT.......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :oldtimer: :oldtimer: :oldtimer:
