There is a guy here called Marinus, who runs a company that brings in parts from Australia ( Terrain Tamer ), and believe it or not ... sometimes his prices are better than what I can get from my local spares shop, like brake pads for example, so maybe give mein a PM and ask him for a price. It will get couriered to your house. Great quality parts too I must add.

The old one is a non Nissan thermostat
I have completely removed mine. Will this cause any major problems? If so where is best (cheapest) place to get a new one?

Nissan Patrol
Petrol 1998, 4.5 GRX
Yes, removing the thermostat entirely can cause the waterpump to cavitate. There needs to be some resistance...

The even bigger problem is that it uses a bypass thermostat which means you CANNOT remove it. A bypass thermostat is 2 sgage, once its is on working temp the flat "washer" at the bottom closes off a port which is very important otherwise most of the water will just circulate through the engine.

In short, when the thermostat is closed - water circulates through engine only
When thermostat is open - water circulates through radiator only
When thermostat is removed - water takes easiest route which will be mostly engine only and some water through the radiator.

Michael, this is a 4.5.

That engine doesn't have a bypass thermostat.

But your comment is definitely valid for the TB42 and TD42 engines!
