gupster wrote:Thanks David. I must admit when I looked at it I wondered if the darkened part of it used to reside lower down. The guy who installed in Durban said he was extremely busy at the moment, so I might just try out your '' Hillbilly method''. When you say it will always pop out again, can it not braced in some way? I am planning a trip after the hols and dont want the probe to pop out.
Will keep this post updated as to what happens with the fix and the results.
Ja, ok, just be careful following my methods. Mine has been fairly well mangled between 2008, when I installed it, and now. My ferrule does not want to tighten up into the manifold anymore, and the copper collar around the probe has also obviously stretched. I have built a little bracket that goes over the top of the probe in the shape of a fork to allow the wire to get through. But the probe moves around and the bracket cut through the cable and I am now looking for a replacement.

Found this one, and if it works at that price, I can buy three for the same price as the genuine Madman.http://www.banggood.com/Universal-K-Typ ... 11377.html

Why these things use a taper thread is also beyond me. It works its way loose every time after a few hot/cold cycles. But I also admit to installing mine 3mm off from where it was located on the previous motor, and now, I find it incredibly difficult to tighten it up properly. I need to plug the hole I have now, and move the probe to a new location, but your options are seriously limited, and I don't really want to be drilling and tapping into the turbo housing.

First of all, thank you very much for all the input you guys have given me. Sure enough, the probe had come out and although I could not get a spanner on the ferrule due to the cut out being too small, I managed to coax it back with Davids tip. I then did a Heath Robinson on it, see att, secured with some copper wire as a temporary fix until I can get it to Durban. I took it for a hard drive and the EGT are now back to normal. On returning, I checked if the probe had remained in situ and I know its too early, but it did not move. It now protrudes 3.5 cm rather than the previous 6.5
Thanks again one and all

HEHE :rolling: , and I thought my fix was wild.... I'll go take a pic of what I did with mine and post it tomorrow.

I see you have the same problem with the location. Proximity to those "nobbles" and castings can mess you around in a big way with a spanner. And because of the cable, you can only get to it with a flat/open end. So in no time you end with with round nut. Then you take to it with vicegrip...OK, I did anyways  ... Now I can't even tighten my nut anymore and the probe wobbles around and I have a "briekstreep" where the gas is leaking past the probe/nut and manifold.
